The Three Stages of Grief in One Day

I.

How much violence do you need to see
before you put pen to paper?

How much love do you need to lose
to stay silent?

How much hope do you need to gain
to open your mouth and speak?

II.

Is it better to be
the minute hand
or the pendulum?

Always moving forward
but never going
anywhere new. Or,
forever swinging back and forth
but balanced?

Is there a better option?
Or can we never escape time?

III.

There are some days when
there is so much to say that
the army of your thoughts
scares you into silence.
